My name is Akihiko Yoshimura from Keio University. On behalf of IMS-JSI- program comitte, I express sinseir thanks to all participants in this joint symposium. Especially I greatly appreciate speakers from overseas for your great contribution to this symposium. Thanks to all of you, I think this symposium was extremely successful.
By the way, the title of this symposium is "checkpoint in medical science". Does anybody know who is the first to say this word "Immunecheckpoint"? When I heard this word for the first time, I felt weired because checkpoint is usually used for dead or alive situation in cell cycle or in the rearrengement of BCR or TCR genes. However, now this word becomes very familiar and very popular, and sounds very nice. Immunoecheckpoint implys the inhibtory factors or inhibitory molecults that prevent activation of immune cells, especailly T cells. Yes, immunecheckpoint is really imporant for immunological sciences. However, it is also important for immunological researchers and society. You may be able to image so many checkpoints are present in immunology society. I am not talking about particlar person, of course*. In any filed and age, conflicts between generations are always present. However, recently, I am afraid that the power of youner generation in the filed of immunology is weaker than that of older ones, especaiily in Japan. There are checkpoints, anytime and anywhere in your life. I hope young people here will overcome the checkpoint(person)s and make your dream true.

Thank you very much again for your participation.
