熊本での日本免疫学会学術集会(12/7-9)が終わった。心地よい脱力感に浸りつつも祭りの後の一抹の寂しさを覚える。いやもう一度やれと言われても言下に断りますけど。
ともかくも登録人数は1800を超えたそうで、コロナ前よりも増えた（Web参加が200-300とまだはっきりしない）。議論もポスターも大いに盛り上がり、大きな混乱もなく、無事終了できたことが何より。私的には会場が良かった。外に出るとすぐに飲み屋街、もとい繁華街だった。誤算もあった。ミキサーやwelcome receptionでビールを出したら大量に余り、代
わりにソフトドリンクが極めて不足していた。これは呑んべえには予想できないことだった。若手フォーラムは初めての試みだったが、予想より入りが悪かった。時間帯がまずかったのかもしれない。でも参加者は面白かったと言ってくれたので慰められる。嬉しいことにクマモンも応援に来てくれた！

welcome receptionでのopening remarks。またいらんことを言ったかもしれない。Jobsの言葉を引用する。でも音響が悪かったのか発音がダメなのか聞き取れなかったという感想が多かったのは残念。
Thank you for your kind introduction. Here, I would like to declare the opening of the 51st JSI Annual Meeting. First of all, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all of you who are running this conference, program committee members, and chair persons, and especially to companies and organizations supporting us, and to the speakers from overseas. Without your support, we could not make this conference possible. Thank you very much.
We have pursued two slogans in this meeting. The first is recovery and reunion of science community from COVID-19, and the second is discussion about the future of immunology. Especially, I wished to make this meeting a place where young people can make face-to-face interaction and networking. I wish to see young researchers' explosion, not of infection but of science. Science is completely opposite from peer pressure, 同調圧力. As you can imagine, new ideas and paradigm shift are born from questioning the everyone’s believed, established theories. For example, a mask you wear is really good for you, especially for children?
In closing, I would like to send young reserachers a quote from my guru, Steve Jobs,
"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life."

次は2024年11月の生化学会（横浜）。私の研究人生の主戦場の後半は免疫学会だったかもしれないが前半は生化学会。大学院生の時に初めて参加したのも生化学会だった。こちらはもともと若手主体、ボトムアップなので私がでしゃばることはそれほど無いような気がするが、ひと休みしたら今度はそっちに取り掛かるか。それにしても学会運営についてはだいぶ詳しくなった。定年後は学会支援会社に採用してもらえるかもしれない。
それにしても住本先生の生化学会2023のポスターは今まで見た中で最高に素晴らしいと思う。生化学とフェルメールとは全く意表をつく発想。地理学者の人物は初めて顕微鏡を作ってミクロの世界を観察したレーベンフックとされている。なぜか若冲も入っている。ものすごく印象的でこれを超えるポスターは作れそうにない。
痛ましいこと。若者が苦しんでいる。老人もコロナで死ななくても2022年以降累計20万人近くが超過死亡で亡くなっている。根本的に間違っているのではないか。
